Effortless Hair 101
6 Ways to Make Your Hair Look More Effortless
1. DON’T WASH YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY
Washing your hair everyday strips it of its nutrients and natural oils, making it look dull. Daily shampooing can also lead to hair breakage, brittle strands, dullness, and dry scalp, so invest in a proper shower cap like the Ssshhh Shower Caps we have in stock at Fringe Collective and a good dry shampoo (L’ANZA is not too gritty or chalky) and try to wash your hair every 2 to 3 days.
2. COMMIT TO EITHER EMBRACING YOUR GRAY OR SCHEDULING REGULAR APPOINTMENTS
Truthfully, the more gray hair you have, the more often you need to schedule root touch ups. Depending on the percentage of gray you have and the graying pattern, coloring every 4-6 weeks is optimal. There are many options for embracing your gray hair or even transitioning from hair color back to gray but the key here is to commit to one or the other so that it looks intentional. Find a stylist that you trust (preferably one of the lovely ladies at Fringe Collective) and let them keep your hair color looking effortless and chic.
3. USE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS
Whether you have super fine and straight hair, thick and frizzy hair, or curls for days, investing in the right products can give the illusion that you spend an hour on your hair each day. We use L’ANZA products at Fringe Collective. Smoothing treatments can lock out moisture on humid days, and a good heat protector like Thermal Defense Spray is a must if you regularly use hot tools on your locks. A pro tip: Use a shine illuminating spray like Color Illuminator from L’ANZA. It enhances the color of your hair and makes it look healthy, while also protecting it from the environment. Oh, and it smells bomb!
4. USE A FLAT IRON or CURLING IRON/ just don’t exceed 380-400 degrees
A flat iron or curling iron are great tools to use to smooth your hair and make it look healthier and more polished. Gone are the days when we all sported super straight hair, but if you want to make your hair look extra sleek and beautiful, spend a few minutes finishing the ends of your hair with your curling iron or flat iron. Give it a try – you won’t regret it! Just don’t exceed 380-400 degrees and make sure your hair is completely dry when using any hot tools.
5. GET REGULAR HAIR TRIMS
Getting your hair trimmed regularly (at least once every 3 months) is key if you want your hair to look effortless. Trimming your hair will get rid of any split, damaged or broken ends you have, quickening hair growth, rather than hindering it.
6. CHOOSE UNDERSTATED HAIRDOS
My final hair-related tip for those who want to know how to look pulled together and effortless is to learn a few simple and understated hairdos. Styles that rest at the nape of your neck, like a low ponytail or bun, a simple French twist, or a classic French braid can really elevate your look, making you look elegant and put-together in mere minutes! If you struggle to master styling your hair at home, please schedule a styling session with one of the talented team members at Fringe Collective. This can be done in the salon or virtually!
